Problems provide opportunity. They provide purpose and vision. One of our church staff once asked me a great question. She said, “What happens when I run out of great ideas?”

She had only been on the job for a few months. She was doing great, being innovative, and bringing new ideas to the table. She was also smart enough to know that this would not always be the case. At some point, her opinion and previous experience would no longer seem fresh and amazing. Then what? What if she could not live up to the current hype?

I assured her that I did not hire her because of her great ideas and perspective. That was just a bonus. I hired her because of the potential I saw in her and her quick ability to learn. I told her, “This is why we are studying leadership skills now. Because you will need them in the future.”

Good leaders know that sometimes the ideas and the vision run out. Good leadership skills include how to find new vision. If you can see what could be better, if you can spot problems, then vision is waiting around the corner. You just have to look for it and then let it inspire you.
